GeoSelect System Requirements

GeoSelect is implemented as a IIS server extension "filter DLL" and requires either a Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003. GeoSelect does not require any backend database and operates independently of any third party database management systems. There is no need to install or configure an SQL database to use GeoSelect.

In order to run the GeoSelect software, you will need the following system hardware and operating system:

GeoLyzer Service.

GeoLyzer is a small windows application that inserts geographic content into a server log file. GeoLyzer can process any delimited data file that includes an IP or host address column. GeoLyzer utilizes the GeoSelect architecture to provide fast log file resolutions. (Note: GeoLyzer comes standard as a part of GeoSelect).

GeoLyzer comes with supplied geographic template files and you can choose which template you use. You can also add your own template or modify an existing one. 

How to use GeoLyzer
It is extremely easy to analyze and update your log files with geographical information using GeoLyzer.  The easiest way to demonstrate how to use GeoLyzer is by using the step-by-step example below. There is also a screenshot that includes reference numbers to each step.

Step 1 – Run GeoLyzer.exe	Step 2 – Select the source file, i.e.- The log file you wish to insert geographical information into. See reference 1
Step 3 – Select the target file, i.e.- The file where to store the results. This file can be a .log or .txt file. Select this file by clicking the Browse button for the target file. See reference 2	Step 4 – Specify the column delimiter contained in the log file you are processing. For example comma, space, tab etc. See reference 3
Step 5 – Specify the column in your source file that contains the IP address used to resolve the location. For example column 3. See reference 4	Step 6 – Specify log file parameters, if your source file contains quoted text or the first row contains headers, then you need to enable these options. See reference 5
Step 7 – Select the template you want to use to insert into the log file, the templates are totally configurable and can contain any number of the geobytes tags. See reference 6. For information on configuring templates see section Adding or Editing Templates.	Step 8 – Click “Analyze Now”, when GeoLyzer finishes processing it will write the results of the operation in the “Processing Messages” box. You can also view the results by clicking the view button on the target file. See reference 7

GeoLyzer Remote

The GeoLyzer service is also offered as a remote service, wherein you can send us your log files and we will process them for you.

GeoNetMap Subscription Service.

Our standard GeoNetMap subscription allows you to install our map database on your machine. This configuration facilitates direct access to our map database either via your own RDMS or via the supplied GeoSelect software. There is no need for co-located or dedicated geo-servers or third party API’s. (Note: GeoNetMap comes standard as a part of GeoSelect).

Geobytes' GeoNetMap Subscription Service provides full access to our IP address to location database. The technology behind this has been developed by geobytes and is not dependent upon any information provided by the Internet user. It does not use cookies, DNS look ups or WHOIS data and is totally non-intrusive to the user. 

The Geobytes map is distributed as a set of eight text files. Each file contains the information necessary to populate one table in the relational database management system. When downloaded from Geobytes, the map data is delivered as two separate zip files. One zip file contains seven of the files; these files are relatively small and change more frequently than the other single file. The following table summarizes the distribution of data across the source files.

Geobytes Services

GeoRemote - Remote Access Service.

For low volume sites, we also offer access to the GeoNetMap Database via a Remote Access Service.

Our remote access service accepts requests in the form of a URL. We have chosen to use HTTP as the transport protocol as it passes easily through proxies and firewalls.

The information returned by a request is user configurable using a template file, so you can organize the data anyway that you like. We have a standard template available, or alternatively you can create your own template.

GeoReport - Geographical visitor reports

GeoReport (was geobutton reports) provides you with an easy to understand and use report detailing which city, region and country each visitor to your site comes from. Your reports are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the results being recorded in real time. 

You are immediately keep up-to date about your site's traffic.

GeoPhrase - Dynamically insert customized greetings on your website.

GeoPhrase allows you to dynamically insert customized welcome messages on to your page. You can either design your own phrase or use one of our defaults.  

This is what our default greeting looks like:

No sign ups, no registration.
Our basic service requires no sign up or registration - just cut and paste this very small piece of code onto your home page.

However, we have lots of other templates to choose from. 

It gets better. . . 
Register for our advanced service, which is also FREE and create your own templates. You can use our advanced service to create your own phrases, paragraphs and even whole pages based on the geographical location of your site's visitors. As we said, the advanced service is still FREE, but you will need to register to use it. We need you to register so that our system can recognize you and allow you to modify your template in the future. This also protects your template, by allowing us to restrict access to your template to only yourself.

GeoDirection - Dynamically redirect internet users based on their geographic location.

Using Geobytes' Ip Address map technology GeoDirection allows you to dynamically redirect internet surfers based on their geographic location. This javascript redirect tool is ideal for internet users that wish to redirect browsers based on their City, Region or Country.

Note: There is no need to install any special software on your web server.
